Puppy Love

We are a little late in getting this out, but we have 2 new guard dogs at the house.  They may be big and scary in their own minds, but in reality there still pups.  Scout and Oreo made their way from Ukaurmpa to Madang back in October.  They are so cute, and all 5 of us are soaking in that precious puppy time!  They are already doing a good job to being alert and barking when they hear something out of the ordinary.  Oreo is a bit of a runt, but Scott seems to have some big paws left to grow into. He looks like a Clydesdale puppy.  Lord willing, these guys will keep an eye out over things...

A Circle and Stick

A noise we commonly hear around our house is the bang of sheet metal. I you were new to our home, you would think someone threw a rock at our fence, or maybe a bird ran into the gate. Quite the contrary, you would be surprised to find that it from the wayward “circle” hit by a stick in a neighborhood kid’s game. Should you want to play this amazing game, you will need just three things: The energy of a grade schooler, one old foam flip-flop with a circle cut out of it, and a stick or branch. Our neighborhood kids will typically form two teams with varying players on each side. They...

The Return to Papua New Guinea

We are only 43 days from our return flights to Papua New Guinea. The time God gave us has been fuller than we could have imagined. We visited with family and friends in so many different contexts and locations. Greer, Belle and Knox experienced foods they had forgotten, sat in a movie theater again, and played new sports with friends. We are refreshed, built up and almost ready to pack up and go. Lorie and I asked the kids yesterday if they were ready to return back to PNG. With a single voice they shouted, “YES!” What an encouraging response! We hoped that their time in the United States...

A home of our own

We are happy to report that about three weeks ago we moved into a rental home in Gilbert, AZ!  It has been 1500 sqft of restful beauty.  God provided couches, beds, kitchen supplies and towels through dear friends at Grace Bible Church, Grace Community Church and others.  Smedly Yates and Adam Bossom were quick last minute helpers that moved a TON of items in just under 2 hours!  We are still trying to get “settled” but the time that we have had thus far has been very sweet. When we arrived back in October, we moved in with our dear friends Josh and Julie Kellso.  Their home had plenty of...

Saying good-bye to Matt Dodd, for a time.

Matt Dodd is at his heavenly home, but it has been a weighty week. For those that did not hear, our beloved friend and bother in Christ, Matt Dodd passed away on Tuesday, July 18th.  He left behind his wife Cameron and their four children:  Susanna, Benaiah, Onesimus & Mary. The emotions have been mixed for us:  Joy coupled with sorrow and hope with sadness.  I know how we are feeling is same as some of you who are reading.  With seasons of trial it is always wise to remind ourselves of what is TRUE!  I wanted to share some truths we have been dwelling on in light of this sobering news....

Lehman Furlough 2017

Furlough:  October 2017 – July 2018 To say our blog and website have been neglected would be an understatement.  This is my first post in the last five months… Rest assured, we are alive and well in Madang.  Lord willing the topic of furlough will be a good way to break the silence. I remember setting foot in Madang.  It was December 6th 2014.  Our family was tired, excited and ready to get to work.  The idea of furlough was so far in the distance.  Thankfully, we had plenty to do before furlough and praise the Lord we have been busy…  Well, like all things in life the...
