Language Check Two

Knox is hanging out with one of our guards, John. Language was designed, created and put in place by God.  Up until Genesis 11 you have the whole world speaking without multiple languages being mentioned, but then it changes.  The flood is finished, the arc landed, man increased on the Earth, and rather than scattering they came together to make a name for themselves.  This was defiance to what God had commanded – that they be fruitful and scatter across the face of the Earth (Gen 9:1).  Genesis 11:6-8 records the day God dispersed the men and gave them a new language. Genesis 11:6-8...

Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.

Lorie and I are in the middle of a biography on William Carey written by S. Pearce Carey.  William Carey was a missionary to the people of India in the 18th century.  He was raised in England and spent a good portion of his life there.  He made and repaired shoes by trade, he also learned several languages on his own in private study.  He was a man that said the famous quote “expect great things from God attempt great things for God”. What I wanted to make note of was the time it took to travel to India from England.  The trip in it’s entirety was five months long but what...

Hermeneutics

I started Hermeneutics class 4 weeks ago. My brain has been exposed (again) to everything you are suppose to learn in grade school. That’s right folks:  Nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, articles, prepositions, infinitives, conjunctions, phrases, clauses, and sentences. It is amazing how point of a passage in Scripture becomes clear after it is diagrammed. It does not mean that the passage was obscure before, it simply makes clear what is being said.  There are several resources for learning how to diagram sentences on the internet. I have a few links below if you happen to...

Shepherd’s Conference

This week is Shepherds Conference! It has been 2 years since I was last at this conference and I am looking forward to going. There are many things at this conference: Fellowship, books, food, biblical teaching, singing, and In & Out Burger. There is however one predominant theme that pervades Shepherds… The Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the Gospel (The good news of sinners offered reconciliation to God by the work of Jesus on their behalf) that makes everything else (fellowship, food, singing, etc…) a joy. Without the Gospel this would be hollow Bible teaching conference...

Theology 1

It has been a joy to finish up TH605 (Theology 1).  I had the opportunity to write a research paper on the Canon of Scripture.  It had not given much thought to this topic in the past, but I wanted to understand how the Bible that we hold today came to be.  After researching, I am only more convinced of the Scripture that we have today as being God’s Word.  If you have had a desire to understand the Canon, or don’t even know what a Canon is; let me know, I would love to send this paper to you.  I would hope that it would be an encouragement to you.   Image by: Naval...

January Update

Happy New Year, and welcome to 2014!  Below is a helpful verse to think on regarding missionaries and their ultimate priority:  Romans 10:14-15 14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!” January has been a month of provision, testing, and enduring.  We had the opportunity to move into another family’s home this month:  The Yates. ...
