The organizational “body”
In Scripture, Paul regularly uses the human body as an illustration for the body of Christ – Just have a read through 1 Corinthians 12:14-26, or Ephesians 4:11-12. I was thinking it would be helpful to apply the “body” illustration to Finisterre Vision; our Church Planting mission organization. The human body works seamlessly when all it’s various parts are functioning correctly. In fact, no one even thinks about their body when everything is fine. We simply enjoy life and go about our day. But, our bodies are not always that way. I remember straining a tendon or...
Read MorePuppy Love
We are a little late in getting this out, but we have 2 new guard dogs at the house. They may be big and scary in their own minds, but in reality there still pups. Scout and Oreo made their way from Ukaurmpa to Madang back in October. They are so cute, and all 5 of us are soaking in that precious puppy time! They are already doing a good job to being alert and barking when they hear something out of the ordinary. Oreo is a bit of a runt, but Scott seems to have some big paws left to grow into. He looks like a Clydesdale puppy. Lord willing, these guys will keep an eye out over things...
Read MoreEnglish – A language worth learning
For the last three months, I have been teaching English to one of our property caretakers, Seken. I love this guy, and it has been a joy to get to know him since we first met in 2014. Unlike many people in PNG, Seken has a very forward thinking personality. He anticipates needs before they are mentioned, finds things to do rather than sitting around, and gets excited about learning. It is a joy to be called his friend. Finally teaching… We talked about the importance of learning English several times, but it was hard to slot time for it. I had to think through ways to streamline...
Read MoreMareroro: A sweet visit with friends
We had the opportunity to visit the nDo team in Mareroro! It is such a joy to spend time with our sweet friends the Canns, Mitchells, and Miss Amelia. It had been just over two years since we last set foot in Mareroro, yet arriving felt just like coming back home. For me, it stirs up memories of housebuilding and time with the people. For Lorie and the kids, it brings sweet reminders of cool weather, playing soccer, and serving in such a beautiful place. It was a joy to see the people of Mareroro once again. Our time was short, with just 6...
Read MoreA stroll through the cemetery
Our family walked to the store recently. The day was bright but cool and the kids collected rocks as they walked. After the first turn in the road, I announced that we would take a quick stroll through the cemetery. We are currently on break at SIL’s missionary base in the Highlands, called Ukarumpa. We visit the cemetery every time we come, some would say it has become a Lehman tradition. The cemetery is positioned between towering pine trees on a slopped hill. We left the main road, crossed over a muddy trench and started climbing the hill. Lorie and I walked over to a rectangular...
