Resting and working in Madang

It has been a busy couple of weeks since we got back from the visit with the Canns in Mareroro.  Knox got sick the day we left and I got sick just two days after him.  In fact, the first week back in Madang was one of the most unproductive we have had in a lot time.  It was very discouraging but showed us we needed to add “resting” to the calendar.  Praise the Lord he is sovereign over such circumstances and we are called to be faithful in the midst of them. After that tiring week the following week was very productive.  The kids wanted to shoot the bow and arrows in the...

Children’s Presentation at EBC

Encouraged by our Kids Our kids participated in a Children’s Sunday service at our local Church in Madang.  Over time we have come to enjoy being a part of this local body.  It has already been over a year since we became regular participants in the body at EBC and we are encouraged to participate in various programs.  The kids practiced what they needed to say for 6 weeks.  The result was them doing a great job in the presentation!  Oh, and it was all in Tok Pisin!

Praying for things around the world

Praying for things around the world

Lorie and I have found ourselves praying a lot recently.  Our family has always had a pattern of praying, typically falling within the context of meals and bedtime.  However, we have found those times of prayer with more depth and concern recently.  I am not sure on the particular reason but I do know that Lorie and I have felt more compelled to pray for more things than we had in the past weeks.  We recently sent out a newsletter for the month of August and included two prayer requests that have been heavy on our hearts.  David Hantla fighting Leukemia and our teammates the Dodds making a...

It’s already Wednesday!

It has been an exciting week at the Lehman house and it is only Wednesday!  Here are a few events from the week. I was able to help SIL with a translator’s house in Madang.  Brad and Faith Halverson are the SIL Center Managers and I told Brad I would love to help with the project.  We headed out with Simon Sammie up the coast highway then down a dirt road going West for 20 mins.  We finished sheathing the interior with plywood then trimmed the edges with some furrings trips.  Brad and Simon have some work left to complete but they should be done this weekend.  The SIL missionary will...

School is done… for a little while

If you are reading this from the Northern Hemisphere my guess is you are shocked at how late school is getting out here in PNG.  Then again, we do homeschool so Lorie sets the schedule for school.  It has been a great year of school for the kids and Lorie and I talk often about how God is growing our kids minds.  Greer has finished 2nd grade!  Belle has finished Kindergarten and Knox is done with Pre-school! Learning how to homeschool our kids has been a trial and error process.  Thus far Lorie has been the primary teacher.  She organizes and plans all the lessons and curriculum for each...

The Economy in PNG

The Economy in PNG

I wanted to get an update to everyone on the state of the economy in PNG.  The big issue in the last update was the possibility of PNG being declared bankrupt and the resulting decline of critical resources needed to operate in PNG.  The deadline for the USB loan payback was June 13th and that deadline has come and gone with no “announcement” of bankruptcy.  Sometimes no news is good news however in this case there are lots of issues not being reported. At the current moment the PNG government secured a 1.5 Billion Kina loan to help them cover their budget shortfall for 2016. ...
