Meet the Tomat’
Part of living in a “foreign place” are the new fruits and vegetables that we get to try. We have been in PNG for over a year now and we still have not tried all the new things. Matt, Zach and I were given some new fruit like things during this most recent housebuilding trip. The fruit (called a Tomat’) was tear drop shaped, red and about the size of a large egg. We asked if they could put it in the food the Mareroro people cook for us. They just laughed. They said you never put it in food, you eat it by itself. So I removed the skin to find an orange fleshed tomato...

Adventure. The word is packed with curiosity, unforeseen circumstances, excitement and doing something that is not part of your regular routine. When you combine that word with, “Housebuilding” you get a Housebuilding Adventure and that is what I just got back from with Matt Dodd and Zach Cann. This trip was the fourth housebuilding adventure we had the privilege of taking together and it will not be the last. We had two primary goals before we left: Frame the house and get the galvanized roofing on. With this in mind we planned three return flights back to Madang from Mareroro...
Read MoreBooks – a great way to pass the time
Lorie and I have found several things to help our kids stay engaged in an activity rather than free play. It just seems like free play inevitably ends with someone getting hurt (thats the human depravity coming out). One of those activities is reading books. Greer has become a very avid reader and regularly reads through his school books as well as books he reads for fun. Belle leans towards princess books as well as the look and find (Waldo type) books. Knox loves reading books that have animals in them. Today he was very interested in Komodo Dragons and was scared that such a...
Read MoreOctober Book Review – Three Books Worth Reading
Over the last three months I have had the opportunity to read three new books. Much of this was due to the nature of housebuilding. When the day’s work is done you continually find yourself sitting in a fire-lit hut with plenty of time to read. I was able to read “Finding Faithful Elders and Deacons” by: Thabiti M. Anyabwile, “Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart” by: J.D. Greear and “Counseling the Hard Cases” Editors: Stuart Scott and Heath Lambert. Finding Faithful Elders and Deacons This book was written as a means to lay-out the...
Read MoreHouse Building Time Lapse
This was a great video created by Smedly Yates. It shows the house build of the Dodd’s home from start to finish. So thankful that we had such a fantastic team come out and build with us.
Read MoreMareroro… Three missionaries and two houses
In case you did not know there was a recent trip to Mareroro to start house building. However, this trip was not to complete the houses, but an effort to speed up the house building for when the team arrives from the States in September. Matt Dodd, Zach Cann and I decided that it would be a productive use of our time to start this and being on the backside of the work I am thankful we did it! “Do we have everything?” That is the question to ask when you are building houses in the middle of the Jungles of Papua New Guinea. Last I checked Home Depot is still around 7000 miles...
