Good things come in small packages
When I was a kid and still under my parent’s roof I was short. Without fail I was always below the “average” height for kids my age. When I had annual checkups I sometimes did not even make the chart for where I should have been for my age. As a means of encouraging me in being shorter than others my mom used to say, “Good things come in small packages.” It was her way of saying that how tall a person was did not have to do with the totality of who that person ultimately is. She was a mother desiring to care for her son. However, rather than using that saying in...

One of several things that are true in this fallen world is that boys will be boys. At least that is something that we have easily observed in our family with Greer and Knox. If there is a battle to win, a dragon to slay or a dangerous feat to perform; rest assured that they will be the first through the gate. Since we arrived in PNG Greer has been asking to make a Bow and Arrow set. The only problem is there are not many trees in our backyard to fell and turn into a bow. God however provided for Greer’s desire another way. Seken is a good friend here in PNG and he is our contact for...

“The plane dropped the atomic bombs and ended the war.” That is a summary statement of the Enola Gay dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, killing 140,000 people instantly. The dates were August 6th and 9th 1945 and those events ultimately ended World War II. The bombs changed warfare in the history of mankind and devastated the people and the cities they were dropped on. That summary statement however is lacking the magnitude of what occurred when the bombs exploded.1 In John 19:18a we find a similar summary statement. John is describing Jesus walking to Golgotha...

Gather around friends. Its time to share a short ant story. Since we arrived in Madang there have been ants. As Dr. Seuss would say we have seen small ones, big ones, long ones, short ones, black ones and red ones. They are everywhere and get into everything. They are the scavengers of the ground here in PNG. Our back house has always had these large red ants on it. The ants walk around the outside walls like they own the place. They had been climbing a tree close to the house, crossing one of the small limbs like a bridge to get on the roof. So I decided to cut the smaller limbs...

There are many, many churches in the Town of Madang. There is a small Christian book store downtown and it is quite common to find individuals who are self taught street preachers walking around. You can find the name of Jesus Christ mentioned on a regular basis by some people that you interact with. The first thought anyone would have to this should be joy! It is a joyful thing to know that God’s Word is readily available in Madang and people have access to a church. The discouraging news can be the depth of error that is commonly taught and the lack of Gospel proclamation in the...

Romans 10:14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? Over two months ago survey one started. The first trip was to Netginea. Matt, Zach and I took a boat and a hike to visit this tribe. Then about a month later Joey Tartaglia (one Director of Finisterre Vision) came to town. Matt, Zach and Joey proceeded to take another boat ride and a 50+ mile hike to nDo as well as various tribes along the way. Then, two weeks ago, Matt, Zach and I took a helicopter ride to three other...
