When I was a kid and still under my parent’s roof I was short. Without fail I was always below the “average” height for kids my age. When I had annual checkups I sometimes did not even make the chart for where I should have been for my age. As a means of encouraging me in being shorter than others my mom used to say, “Good things come in small packages.”
It was her way of saying that how tall a person was did not have to do with the totality of who that person ultimately is. She was a mother desiring to care for her son.
However, rather than using that saying in the way mom did, I want to use it to describe care packages in PNG. We would define a “Care Package” as a box or large envelope that contains large heaps of fantasticalness! Hershey bars, Lego sets, mp3’s, DVDs, black licorice, seeds for the garden, books, clothes, candy and cards with words of encouragement can usually be found inside! We have had several people send us care packages and they continue to be a physical demonstration of peoples love for our family. Regardless of what comes there is always a guarantee regarding what’s inside the box. You will not be able to find any of the items in PNG.
Although Care Packages are not the substance of what God has called us to in Jesus Christ, they can be a great tool to remind us of things we left behind to bring the gospel to PNG. They are also a continual reminder that friends and family back home are praying for us and wanting to encourage us in this work. Rest assured that every time I go to the Post Office and find a package that I and thinking, “Good things come in small packages.”
A special think you to all that have sent and continue to send such gifts.
