Good things come in small packages
When I was a kid and still under my parent’s roof I was short. Without fail I was always below the “average” height for kids my age. When I had annual checkups I sometimes did not even make the chart for where I should have been for my age. As a means of encouraging me in being shorter than others my mom used to say, “Good things come in small packages.” It was her way of saying that how tall a person was did not have to do with the totality of who that person ultimately is. She was a mother desiring to care for her son. However, rather than using that saying in...

New Tribes Mission had an aviation expo recently. Our team as well as my parents had the privilege to see the new Kodiak plane that NTM purchased. Although the team is not sure what tribe they will be living with there is the possibility that we will be riding in this plane! The staff with NTM was more than helpful with answering questions as well as letting us and the kids get in the cockpit! We had a blast! We are only 24 days from departure to PNG!

Lorie and the kids got their Typhoid vaccine today! The kids were all crying in the office and I had to hold the kids down. Thankfully everyone came out alive at the end of the appointment and we stopped for ice cream. Today was just another step in the journey to PNG—it is coming fast.

Like all adventures, you are always heading towards something but don’t know all the things you will encounter along the way. Lorie and I have found this to be true as we continue towards the goal of getting to Papua New Guinea. There have been obstacles along our path (like visa delays) and at the same time there have been continual moments of encouragement (training, meeting with friends, family, & supporters). It is encouraging to know that God has made these things to “work for our good” (Romans 8:28). Then again, in light of Romans 8:28 I don’t think...

Praise God we are back from the trip! The total miles ended up being 4780 from the original estimate of 4200. I am grateful to God for the opportunity that we had to visit so many people. We were also thankful to God for the safe travels on the various roads we took. We have had several people ask what the most memorable part of the trip was? Although that seems like a simple question it has been hard to answer. The entire trip was so memorable that I can think of at least 100 things that we will remember. Here’s one: Before we headed home from California we celebrated Greer’s...

With over 3100 miles traveled and visiting 4 Northwestern states, we are starting our return home. It has been an encouraging time to meet with friends and family as well as thanking supporters. I had the opportunity to speak at a church in Seattle and met a couple that had spent 13 years in PNG! We are so thankful to God for the opportunities that we have had as well as safety in our travels. The kids have been doing great even in the midst of long stents in the car seats. The kids will occasionally watch a movie on the iPad – I think Lorie and I could recite the movie Frozen from...
